Strategic Ousting Ends Latest 'Survivor'

Jeff Is Victim Of Someone's Big Mouth

As a result of complex strategizing, the surprise ousting from "Survivor" was 34-year-old project member Jeff, of the former Kucha tribe.

Despite merging into one tribe, dubbed the Barramundi, the Kucha and Ogakor tribes voted strictly along former tribe lines in the tribal council. All members of the former Kucha tribe voted for 26-year-old auto designer Colby, while all the members of the former Ogakor voted for Jeff.

Thus deadlocked, the ousting went to the person who collected the most votes in former tribal councils. Jeff had one, and Colby had none.

Upon casting their ballots, contestants made clear that their votes were not the least bit personal, but were purely strategy-based. In casting his vote against Jeff, Colby noted that the move had been agreed upon among the Ogakor in the first week of play.

In a post-ousting interview, Jeff was pleasant, if a tad angry. He made it clear that he was targeted by the former Ogakor because some unnamed female Kucha member had let loose long ago the fact that he had one vote against him. "I knew this was going to happen," he said.

Immunity Challenge: Because it involved the newly-formed united Barramundi tribe, the challenge was every-man-for-himself, with one victor, who would then be the only person safe from banishment. The challenge entailed each tribesperson standing for as long as they could on the end of a sawed-off log placed in the middle of the water.

After 10 and a half hours of standing on their logs, only three of the 10 tribespeople remained: 32-year-old personal trainer Alicia, 40-year-old nurse Tina and Keith. Alicia finally gave in after host Jeff Probst came by in a boat and offered food if she relented. When asked at the tribal council why she gave up, she said that she felt the challenge would go on forever, and that the outcome would've been the same even if she had stayed longer.

With Tina and Keith remaining, Keith told Tina, "I need this." Keith has many votes against him in former tribal councils that would make him lose in a tiebreaker. Tina quickly jumped off her log and gave the victory to Keith. At the tribal council, Keith gave Tina credit for the win and said, "She's become like my sister."

Behind-the-scenes strategizing was rampant even in the challenge. Before long, Colby intentionally took a dive, quite literally, in order to appear cocky to the former Kucha and divert attention from more vulnerable members of the former Ogakor, such as 30-year-old aspiring actress Jerri and 40-year-old chef Keith.

However, earlier in the episode, the audience was privy to a strategy session among the Kucha, in which it was made clear by 23-year-old footwear designer Elisabeth that Colby and Jerri were their targets.

Tribes Merge: In lieu of a reward challenge, the members of the Ogakor and Kucha came together as a tribe and spent time socializing.

After some confusion as to who would end up where, the male members of the Ogakor, Keith and Colby, came to the Kucha camp to meet and eat with Jeff, 23-year-old student Nick and 53-year-old teacher Rodger. The Kucha men were visibly disappointed that the Ogakor women were not coming instead, but the men still butchered the Kucha's last chicken and had a hearty meal.

Meanwhile, the women of the Kucha, Alicia and Elisabeth, went to the Ogakor camp and hit it off famously with Tina, Jerri and 22-year-old administrative assistant Amber. The women shared their lust for food but were disappointed to have their meal at the less comfortable Ogakor camp.

The Kucha women also related the story of the fate that befell Michael, who left the Outback in the previous episode. Michael accidentally passed out, fell into a fire, was severely burned, and had to leave the show for surgery. The Ogakor had previously received no word as to what exactly had happened, and were relieved to discover that Michael would recover.

After their gender-specific meals, the men and women had to pack up quickly and set up at a brand-new campsite.
