POSTED: 9:37 am EST November 4, 2004

A Simpson County mail carrier is facing 10 years in prison and a $500,000 fine after being indicted by a federal grand jury for stealing a dozen pieces of mail.

The grand jury in Bowling Green indicted 34-year-old Christopher Hillard, of Franklin, on a charge of theft of mail by a postal employee.

The U.S. Attorney's Office charged Hillard with stealing two gift cards on April 2, and with taking 10 items of mail between February and May.

Hillard will be arraigned Nov. 17 before a U.S. Magistrate in Bowling Green.
