LOUISVILLE -- An overnight fire didn't just destroy an auto shop, but the cars that were inside awaiting service as well.
The blaze began shortly before 1 a.m. at Buck's Auto Shop on Kramers Lane, just off Cane Run Road, WLKY NewsChannel 32's Julia Harding reported Wednesday.
The roof of the building was entirely caved in after the fire. Lake Dreamland Assistant Fire Chief Bruce Himes said the fire got a pretty good head start."When it's fully involved like this was, not much can be done," he said. When a shop like Buck's -- where tools of the trade include fuel, gasoline, oil and blow torches -- goes up in flames, it's not surprising that three different fire departments responded to the blaze."All that gas ... cars are just blowing up in there ... it's getting worse," witness Wendell Barton said. "Telephone poles are falling. They got three different sets of fire departments out there."Numerous cars that were in the shop overnight also were destroyed."It's just cars everywhere," Barton said. "We done heard about three cars blown up since we've been here."Crews managed to save a few cars in the parking lot outside the building, but the shop's interior was a different story."It's a total loss," Himes said.Arson investigators are waiting for heavy equipment to be removed so they can start their investigation. So far, it's not clear what started the fire. Please follow WLKY NewsChannel 32 and TheLouisvilleChannel.com for updates to this story as they become available.
