Former Officers Often Targeted

A former Indiana state trooper convicted of killing his wife and their two children will likely be housed separately from other inmates for his own safety when he is sent to prison, according to a state correction official.

David Camm, 37, faces up to 195 years in prison for his three murder convictions in the shooting deaths of his wife and kids.

Camm's sentencing is set for April 11.

State correction officials likely will place Camm in protective custody whether he requests it or not.

In prison, former police officers often are targeted for abuse by other inmates.

Prisoners in protective custody are held in a separate part of the prison and shower and eat at different times than other inmates.

Cam was a state trooper for 10 years, but quit the force about four months before the September 2000 killings.
