David Camm's lawyers are pointing to an incident from over a decade ago to try to discredit a prosecution witness.

The former Indiana State Police trooper is charged with killing his wife, Kimberly, and his two children, Bradley and Jill, in their Georgetown, Ind., house in September 2000.

Rod Englert has testified about blood patterns at the crime scene, and said that the blood found on Camm's T-shirt could only have come from firing a gun.

On cross-examination Tuesday, defense lawyer Mike McDaniel brought up an endorsement that Englert gave a psychic more than 10 years ago.

Englert reportedly said that the psychic had "established a track record for professionalism and honesty."

NewsChannel 32's Abby Miller reported that Englert admitted making the statement, adding that the psychic had helped authorities find a downed plane.

McDaniel said that Englert's endorsement should lessen his credibility with jurors, Miller reported.

Prosecutors said that the defense is getting desparate.

"He (McDaniel) is something like a tiger who's been put in a pit. He's really trying desparately to claw his way out," lead prosecutor Stan Faith said. "He's trying everything he can do. He hasn't found anything substantive at this point, nor do I think he'll be able to. I think it's very ineffective and sort of boring actually.

McDaniel also pointed out two times where Englert had reportedly testified under oath that he was certified by the American Academy of Forensic Scientists, which is not true, Miller reported.

Englert said that he misused the word "certified," and meant to say "qualified."

Miller reported that during the morning session, McDaniel did not tried to disprove any of the blood findings made by Englert at the crime scene.

McDaniel also questioned a failing math grade back when Englert was in college, Miller reported.

McDaniel also questioned Englert's $300 fee and called him a "hired gun."

Miller reported that Englert has been paid $100,000 for his time, testing and testimony for the prosecution.

"I think he's all about himself, I think he's all about money, and I think he's just not what we ought to be having in this case," McDaniel said.

Prosecutors said that Englert is well worth the money they have paid him for his expert testimony.

"I think we have enough safeguards in the system that it's not just about money, it's about science, and they get paid for their skill," Faith said.

Englert has testified for around 300 homicide cases over his career in 24 states, including the O.J. Simpson murder trial. After two years of investigating the Simpson case, he was never called to testify.

"He was hired to do all this stuff, and the great state of California looked at its witness list and said well, I'd rather have Mark Furman than Rod Englert testify," McDaniel said.

Miller reported that the prosecution is expected to wrap up its case Wednesday.
