NEW ALBANY, Ind. -- One of the most important investigators at the scene of the Camm murders took the stand Tuesday. Sgt. Sam Sarkasin with the Indiana State Police was an evidence technician at the scene. Sarkasin testified that it was unusual that he did not see many footprints or much disruption at the crime scene, according to NewsChannel 32's Abby Miller.
He also said that he noticed the floor was wet near the bodies. Miller reported that the mop and bucket that prosecutors allege Camm used to clean up the crime scene was brought in as evidence Tuesday.
Defense lawyer Mike McDaniel said that any evidence of a cleanup at the murder scene helps their case. "If indeed there was any kind of cleanup in there, that would alter time lines," McDaniel said. According to Miller, Sarkasin testified that when the doctor was performing an autopsy on the bodies, he called him in and said, "Sam, you'd better come in here. It appears this child's been molested."
The doctor was referring to Camm's daughter, Jill. Prosecutors said that there's no conclusive proof that Camm abused his daughter, but are using it as a possible motive. Prosecutors said that Sarkasin's testimony is laying a foundation for evidence that will be revealed later. "Sometime later in this case every thing will focus and it will become 20-20," lead prosecutor Stan Faith told Miller. Miller reported that under Indiana courtroom guidelines, jurors are allowed to ask questions of witnesses. Six jurors have submitted questions for Robert Stites, an investigator who testified last week, Miller reported.
