2003 Volvo XC90
SUV: Swedish Utility Vehicle
CHICAGO -- Volvo will begin selling its answer to the SUV this fall.
The truck will be available with two types of engines. There is a 6-cylinder twin turbo that generates 268 horsepower and 280 pound feet of torque. There is also a 5-cylinder light-pressure turbo that cranks out 208 horsepower and 236 pound feet of torque.
Since it is a Volvo, it has plenty of safety innovations. Perhaps the most significant safety feature is a series of side-curtain airbags. In the event of a rollover or side-impact crash, three side-curtain airbags will deploy -- one for each of the side windows.
The XC90 also has an electronic system to help prevent whiplash and Volvo's Dynamic Stability and Traction Control (DSTC) system.
